Title: Research and Technical Marketing Manager
CLIENT:
Our client is a leading company in Engineering Plastics and a subsidiary of a multibillion dollar parent, a fully integrated chemical manufacturer of industrial, and fine chemicals, as well as base resins. The Engineering Plastics business group has a significant presence in Europe and Asia. The client is an ISO and QS certified compounder of engineering plastics. The company starts with basic resins and through the addition of additives, modifiers, and colorants, changes the physical and/or cosmetics properties of the materials to meet customer specifications.
POSITION:
Reporting to the Business Group President, the new Research and Technical Marketing Manager will be responsible for streamlining and modifying R&D in the Americas. He/She will serve as a bridge to manufacturing, R&D, Customer Service and Sales. This professional will ensure that Business Development Managers have proper product information, develop/oversee programs to train Sales and Marketing staff, function as a marketing tool to the customer and ensure that ADE s are armed with appropriate technical knowledge. The new Research and Technical Marketing Manager will steer, challenge and mold his team (Computer Aided Engineers, Technical Service Engineers and other technical marketing staff reporting to this position) into a world class support organization for the Americas.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and manage the Research & Technical Marketing (R&TM) function to be an operational bridge between manufacturing, R&D, customer service and sales departments
- Differentiate group using Technical Service and CAE as a stronger marketing asset
- Translate division product line strategies to R&TM team actions
- Set up, implement and steer regional product development/modification programs in close cooperation with central Research & Development group in Europe
- Establish regional CAE service capability and manage/coach CAE service manager to provide effective CAE support to AD projects
- Make and manage yearly budget of R&TM function, including RDSC (China), Fixed Out of Pocket Expenses (FOOP) and Capital Expenditures (CAPEX) and CAE directly, and R&DM cost budgets in various local legal entities indirectly
- Plan and steer regional product development/modification programs, including new raw material qualification, to meet the market needs in Americas
- Act as Americas representative in global PERMs (Project Evaluation and Review Meetings)
- Act as the focal point of technical expertise for regional competitive technical product knowledge, including recipes, specs, environmental management (absence declaration of hazardous substances), regulatory issues like UL and FDA complaints, and material data
- Set-up and provide formal technical training to BDMs
- Organize, gather and share new product knowledge from global R&D or other regions
- Lead the organization of knowledge/data in Americas
- Adhere to and implement company safety and quality policies into the organization
- This job is a link between market needs (Prospect to Order) and production capabilities
- Work effectively with people with different mentality and interests
- This job is a linking pin between local and global technical organizations, having to manage time and cultural difference
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor Degree (Advanced degree desirable, PhD, M.Sc.), majored in material science/chemical engineering/polymer science with a strong marketing/commercial sense
- Technical knowledge: product development, material science, processing, functional industrial requirements and standards, product and end-part testing, CAE analysis
- Knowledge, UL, environmental management, recipes/specs
- General technical knowledge of electronics, part testing, and product design
- Minimum five years engineering experience in the use and processing of engineering plastics like polyamide and polyester
- Deep understanding of material properties, performances and fundamental polymer science
- Entrepreneurial, self propelling personality
- Strong communicator, both internally and externally
- A team-player, able to work independently/strategic/ hands on/ operational
- Ability to think “outside the box”
