Title: Director of Manufacturing
CLIENT:
Our client, a $250 million New England based division of a Fortune 500 company, designs, manufactures and markets industrial rotating machinery. Their products are distributed thru global networks of strategically placed manufacturing plants in Brazil, China, Germany and the US, technical and service centers serving the pulp and paper, petroleum, chemical, electric power and mining industries.
POSITION:
Reporting to the Division Vice President, General Manager of this $250 million rotating machinery business, this leader will strategically and tactically manage global manufacturing operations and related support departments to meet established budgetary goals and objectives. He/She will drive continuous improvement as an operating philosophy for higher quality and better service at the lowest possible cost. Total capital spending will exceed $5 million. He/She will perform other duties as directed by the Vice President, General Manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Establish a vision for manufacturing to assure highest quality, best costs and high customer service levels. Provide an environment that fosters continuing awareness and employee involvement and active participation in improving/enhancing the quality content of the division products and services.
- Utilizing a built in financial model, this leader will prepare the capital budget, supervise the preparation of individual departmental budgets, and assure that the plan meets divisional goals and is executed to meet budget. Work with/for the Regional Directors, firstly on a strategic level and secondarily on a tactical level assuring the projects are done effectively and on a timely basis. As a communicator, this leader must be tough enough to make things happen and friendly enough to be an effective team player.
- Coordinate and direct Lean initiatives through the Plant Engineer and Manager, Manufacturing Engineering Services, major projects e.g. expansion of facilities, acquisition and installation of capital equipment, major repairs and overhauls, changes in plant layout to the best economical advantage. Work closely with Lean leaders assigned to all of the major locations. Travel to and work with local manufacturing personnel at key production centers.
- Coordinate, personally or through delegated authority, the Division’s safety programs in conjunction with Human Resources.
- Plan, organize and implement production and inventory control systems, procedures, and improvements in conjunction with supporting staff services to include data processing.
- Participate in internal programs, e.g. communications, work simplification, cost reduction, etc., through contacts with educational institutions, professional societies, manufacturers, et al. Keep abreast of new developments in procurement procedures and practices, new sources of supply for special materials, tools, equipment, etc.
- Coordinate the capital investments for all of the divisional global facilities
REQUIREMENTS:
- Ideal candidate will have a Bachelors degree in a technical discipline, advanced education preferred. 15 years of experience in a progressive industrial rotating machinery environment. In addition, this leader will have solid exposure to materials and inventory planning.
- Must be capable of driving lean thru-out the organization and drive improvements in manufacturing globally. Continue to work to support technology transfer and product transfer in Asia. Ideal candidate will be a Six Sigma Black Belt and will be functioning in that capacity for at least two years.
- An effective communicator, this professional must provide leadership in the manufacturing side, but also able to roll up the sleeves and be involved in the details of the capital plan.
- This person must have the capability to determine where products can best be produced, assembled and tested, whether it be China, Germany or Brazil. In addition, He/She will also help to formulate strategies to support proper decisions.
- Successful candidate will have a diverse skillset, with strong business maturity.
- Successful candidate will bring previous experience in adherence to divisional and corporate compliance objectives with regard to Import/Export compliance oversight.
- This professional will have strong analytical ability, effective critical thinking skills and be creative in his endeavors.
- This leader will be a strong team player and bring a strong work ethic and integrity to the organization.
- Ideal candidate will have multi-lingual capability.

COMPENSATION:
- Compensation to include a base salary of $150-175,000.00, plus an incentive bonus program of 30%, based on achievable objectives.
