Title: Business Manager
CLIENT:
Our client, a $50 million manufacturer, with 250 employees, markets laboratory instruments, specialty glass apparatus and glass and plastic containers for the laboratory and diagnostic packaging industries. They offer 2500 products in their catalog and sell to lab markets through traditional laboratory supply companies. They practice Lean Manufacturing and embrace Six Sigma initiatives. This scientific products company is a fully integrated ISO 9001 certified company. Our client is a highly valued business unit (BU) of a multibillion dollar parent.
POSITION:
Reporting to the VP/GM Science Products, the Business Manager will provide strategic leadership for Sales, Product Management, Customer Service and Pricing for our client’s North American Distribution business. The Business Manager will be responsible for revenue growth, EBITDA , and asset management. Other critical initiatives are centered on distributor relationships, customer satisfaction, CRM, marketing, new product development, advertising excellence and promotional programs to generate new sales growth. He/She will adapt new concepts in sales and marketing, establish objectives and strategies based on the markets in this highly competitive arena. The customers for the Business Unit’s products and services are two-tiered distribution channels, selling to distributors, who in turn sell to and service, end-users in the scientific markets.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Strategy: Build and develop a business team to implement the strategy to double the value of the business over the next five years through organic growth, new product development, and acquisition.
- Business Plans: Assure that the sales and marketing strategy is achieved such that the profit goals of the BU are accomplished to compliment the goals and strategic vision of the BU.
- Business Excellence: Assure that the business team meets the requirements and standards of the industry as set by the measurement criteria of major distribution partners. To focus on enhancing their position as a top tier/preferred supplier to customers.
- Product Development and Technology: To assure that the BU has a sustainable growth of leading edge new products into the distribution market.
- Customer Service: Assure that the business team has a customer service focus that is first in class in the industry; they are recognized by their partners and end user customers as fair, trustworthy and customer oriented and tough, yet easy to do business with.
- Associate development: Mentor and guide associates to continually development and improve their skills and performance.
- Culture and Attitude: Support the BU’s culture and values.
COMPENSATION:
- Salary range $100,000.00 to $120,000.00

REQUIREMENTS:
- BS/BA and MBA preferred.
- 10+ years experience with 5+ years in laboratory products or life science.
- Strong sales and marketing skills.
- Knowledge of P & L management.
- Strong understanding of distribution concepts.
- Must know business processes (order entry to supply chain management and MRP to SAP integration).
- Leadership skills, excellent communication, analytical, results oriented
- Must possess a thorough understanding of the scientific laboratory products industry.
