Title: Vice President Scientific
CLIENT:
Our client, a $15 million division of a “Fortune 500” parent with 100 employees designs, manufactures and markets scientific analytical instruments and is regarded as a leader in this niche market worldwide. Their immediate objective is to grow the company organically and by continuous acquisitions while refining manufacturing operations, penetrating collateral markets and exploring future applications for their instruments. This technology leader, a fully integrated ISO 14000 company, can foresee a rising demand for specialized analytical instrumentation in both established markets and emerging nations around the world.
POSITION:
Reporting to the Group GM, the VP Scientific will oversee IR and IMS Business units and create a vision and a 3-5 year plan so that there are clear goals and program to explore alternative markets and applications. He/She will appreciate and be responsive to the challenges faced by both international and domestic salesmen while fostering enthusiasm and boosting morale. It will be essential to possess a “Big Picture” perspective in order to properly represent the interests of employees, customers and the company as a whole.
RESPONSIBILTIES:
- Ensure that the Business Unit is properly staffed with well-trained, highly motivated individuals driven to even higher levels of performance
- Develop practices and metrics to monitor and evaluate sales
- Review the progress of the traditional business and the new products/markets business. Maintain administrative control of the sales and marketing functions including reporting, budgeting, compensation and other allied responsibilities
- Introduce formal sales and marketing programs to further develop existing relationships and identify other applications and customer needs that will capitalize on the company’s existing technological base
- Work with manufacturing and engineering to continuously improve products and to ensure that defects are addressed, delivery improved and installation made more dependable
- Engage in direct sales calls to augment the current sales force
REQUIREMENTS:
- BA/BS in Science/ Engineering plus advanced degree in related field
- Knowledge of scientific analytical instruments
- Sales experience in the scientific market
- Previous partial Profit and Loss responsibility
- Proven ability to drive company forward by exploiting product applications and discovering new markets for high potential scientific analytical instruments
- Must possess exceptional communication skills and the ability to champion a vision and earn the respect of employees, customers and senior management.
- Some Merger and acquisition experience desirable.
- Knowledge of International business
- Demonstrated leadership and team building skills
- Experience in selling and marketing to OEM’s
- Familiarity with overseas distribution
- Solid strategic and financial skills

COMPENSATION:
- Salary range from $140,000-$160,000
- Eligible for outstanding Executive Bonus Program
